Yes - The one of a kind
Toy Train chugging away
on a circular rail track,
around the Child Care
Centre never fails to
enthuse and delight our
little visitors, patients
or otherwise!
Childhood Cancer is one
of the most distressing
and heart rending diseases
of our times. Unfortunately,
as per recent statistics,
children constitute 3%
to 5% of the total cancer
patients. The most common
malignant disorders among
children are Leukemia,
Solid Tumors and Lymphoma.
Fortunately, 70% of Leukemia
cases in children are
curable. Management of
Solid Tumors can be controlled
through Surgery, Radiotherapy
and Chemotherapy. In Leukemia
and Lymphoma cases Blood
Transfusion with Chemotherapy
and Radiotherapy happen
to be very effective treatment.
All kinds of facilities
are available for diagnosis
of treatment of paediatric
malignancies under the
supervision of dedicated
oncologists and caring
nurses. There is a 25
bedded centrally air-conditioned
ward with isolation Wards
and unique ambience for
the children. There is
specially designed Central
Atrium to allow natural
light to the entire building
and its patients. It overlooks
a central fountain.
There is a toy centre
on the ground floor
sponsored by Rotary
Club Calcutta which
is a star attraction
for the children in
the afternoon after
a toy train ride. Different
programmes and competitions
are organized by many
NGOs and individuals
from time to time for
the entertainment of
the children. Some of
the recent visits by
dignitaries were that
of Paul Carr (Dean ,
West Minister Abbey
), Sunil Gavaskar & Sourav
Ganguly(Ex Captain of
Indian Cricket Team) & Mithun
Chakraborty (Film actor).
Children's Day is celebrated
every year in a big
way where the paediatric
patients perform in
different ways in the
presence of dignitaries
and invited school children,
ending with a cinema
show and fair.
